Didn't Our Hearts Burn Within Us?

Our scriptures for today have come from Luke and is talking about after Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared unto two men walking down the road to Emmaus. They didn't realize who He was as they walked and talked with Him. They were very sad that Jesus had died and that Mary and the others had said they found the tomb empty. They were not sure what had happened to Jesus and were sharing their concerns with Him. Jesus was going to go on, but they convinced him to stay with them. As He did he broke the bread and served them. When he did this their eyes were opened and they knew who he was. Then He disappeared. They marveled at how their hearts burned within them as He talked with them.

How often have we been in the presence of God and yet been so caught up in our own sadness, difficulty, oppression, or circumstances that we didn't realize it. Yet, as His spirit speaks to us and deals with us, our hearts should burn within us. Our hearts should witness to us that we are in His presence. It is in His presence that needs can be met and our hearts can be ministered to. His word says where 2 or 3 are gathered together in His name that He would be there in their midst. What is He there for? Just to visit? No, he is there to meet needs, He is there to work miracles and touch lives. He is there to do whatever you need done.

We must be sure to stay in tune with God and what He is doing. He encourages us to not get caught up with the cares of this life and not realize what is going on around us and that His coming is near. The signs of the times are every where. The things happening in the world today are just pointing to the nearness of His coming. We can't get so caught up in this world that we are not watching for him. It begins with us not being aware of His presence in our lives on a daily basis and then we begin to grow lax in watching for His return.

Oh, Lord, please let our hearts burn within us when we are in your presence.
