"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you" (James 1:27, NLT)
Each one of us face times of weakness or distress. It is important for us to lift each other up during these times, to help one another, encourage one another, and support each one. God's word tell us that pure religion is to care for the orphans and widows in their time of need and to not let the world corrupt you.
How does the world corrupt us? In our way of thinking, the things that enter our eyes, ears, mind, thoughts, spirit that would cause us to live in a way that is not pleasing to God. They can corrupt us to where we don't see the needs of those around us who are in distress or who are weak or going through a difficult place. Lord, don't ever let us get so calloused to the needs of others that we don't reach out to them.
When we care for those who are weak or in need, we are demonstrating God's love.
The challenge today is to find someone around you who is in need, an elderly person who needs someone to help them buy groceries or some yard work done or a child who needs a coat or new shoes. Get outside of ourselves and help someone today.
