Dress In Love

"So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all purpose garment. Never be without it" (Colossians 3:12-14, THE MESSAGE)

This is so funny that this day's scripture is about clothes. I spent the day in Defuniak springs speaking at a women's event, it was great. Then I had to come home and pack to go to Panama City for a 100 year church celebration at Panama City First, it was awesome too. But we thought it started at 6:00 pm and found out it was 5:00 pm. I got home from Defuniak at 4:00 and started packing so fast I don't know what I was throwing in the bag. All I know is I had to have underwear and something to wear to Destin in the AM. Upon arriving at our room I did find sleeping clothes, and church clothes and UNDERWEAR! There are some things you just HAVE to have to wear each day.

The same is true in our spiritual walk. We have to put on love, compassion, humility, kindness, etc. We choose each day what clothes we are going to put on, we also have to choose what character traits we are going to put on, what fruit of the spirit we are going to exemplify. No matter what else we put on we need to put on love. It is the most important garment, never be without it, the word says.

I also remember as a child each day before I went to school my momma would check my underwear and be sure they were clean. SHe didn't want me to go to school without them. We don't need to face a day without putting on love. It covers everything else in our lives if we love like God and forgive others as the Master has forgiven us.

The challenge today is to dress yourself in love. Put as much thought into what you are wearing spiritually as you do physically.
