Gracious Love

"Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone" (Colossians 4:5-6, NLT)

As our relationship with Christ grows, our character becomes more like His. No matter where we go and what we do people should be able to see Christ in us. They should be able to see His presence in our responses, reactions, and actions. This verse tells us to live wisely among those who are not believers.

Why? Why do we have to be concerned about how we live in front of non-believers? Because it is the lives we live before them that will help to draw them to Christ.

Oh, I know there are some people, like the Pharisees, who act religious but they are harsh and judgmental. The world sees enough of this and don't want anything to do with those kind of people.
But we have to remember that when they are looking at us and hearing us, they should be seeing and hearing Christ.

This verse says to make the most of every opportunity. What opportunities? The ones we are given each day, all day long. People we work with, go to school with, people at the Wal-mart, gas station, our neighbors, family members, or anyone who has not accepted Christ. One thing we have to remember is when we don't make the most of each opportunity, then that is an opportunity missed. We seldom get second changes to make good on an opportunity.

What if that is the exact time that God had that person's heart ready to accept His love? What if that was the very moment that person needed to see God's grace and mercy through your words and actions? We must pray each day, Lord, please help me to be sensitive to your Spirit as it leads and guides me through the day. Help me to make the most of each opportunity that comes our way. Don't let me be too busy, too distracted, or too scared. Help me rise to the occasion and walk in the power of your Spirit.

My challenge to you today is to be sensitive to those around you and make the most of every opportunity, especially those involving non-believers. Don't worry, God will help you because it is our reason for living.
