"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer" (Psalm 19:14, NLT)
Communication is a vital part of our lives. We communicate is so many different ways. SOOOOOOO much more than just talking. Some people think if they have expressed how they feel they are communicating. I don't know if you have ever noticed, but you have 1 mouth and 2 ears. I think God did that to let us know that we should listen twice as much as we should speak. Listening is part of communication as well.
There are other ways we communicate. Our body language, facial expressions, attitudes, tone, and volume usually say more than our words. Did you know slamming cabinet doors was communication? Caught you didn't I?
The things we allow to settle in our hearts are conveyed in the words we speak and how we speak those words. If we are mad, frustrated, bitter, then those things will be noticeable in a prideful attitude, rigid body language, and harsh tones. But the same is true if our hearts and thoughts are full of God's love then that will be portrayed through our words and actions.
I remember when Tommy and I first start dating, I was so shy. I would hardly talk to anyone. After we got married, we had several "SILENT" suppers, there were days I wouldn't talk to him, because I had never really learned to communicate. But after being married to a talker for almost 25 years now, I have learned to talk. I have learned to allow God to help me to share my feelings and to listen to others as well. I am still learning to channel my feelings, thoughts, and attitudes so that they are not destructive. We are all a work in progress.
Think about how you communicate when you are self-focused, impatient, mad, or frustrated. How can you change that? How can you let the love of God be revealed through your body language, tone, expressions, and volume?
My challenge for you today is to intentionally check your body language, tone, volume, expressions, and the words you speak. Are you revealing God's love? Write today's scripture and put it somewhere you will see it often. Let it be your prayer for today. And at the end of the day, honestly assess your words and thoughts and see if they were pleasing to God.
