Dear Friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love-not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent His Son as a scrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:7-10 NLT)
Do you remember when you were young and started liking boys(that is if you are a girl)? Remember how we thought we loved them and then they would make us mad or not pay us any attention and we would love someone else the next day. We had no idea what real love was.
We just loved them because they were doing something nice for us or because they acted like they liked us, or just because they were cute.
Thank God we grew up! Or did we? We still do the same thing today, but we do it with God. We say we love him and we even act like it as long as He is doing something really good for us or things are going our way. But when a little storm comes along, or if we get too busy with other things in our life, we don't really love Him like we should.
Another way to tell if we really love God is how we love other people. God's word says if we don't love then we don't know God. If we do love then we are a child of God and we know God.
Why would we love if we knew God, because we would be in such a relationahip with Him that we would know that He is love and He desires to love others through us. Again, JESUS WITH SKIN ON.
We make it so hard and all He asks is for us to love one another continuously. Not just when someone is doing something for us or when they have been nice to us. But we are to love them at all times. Can the people around you say, She really loves me! Or are those words that you may speak with your mouth, but your actions say differently.
When we are continually reminded and mindful of God's love for us and acknowledge His forgiveness and goodness in our lives, then it is easier for us to allow His love to pour through us.
There was a song I sang a long time ago that was my prayer and I think we should all begin to sing it again: Touch through me Holy Spirit, touch through me, Love through me, Holy Spirit, Pour through me, Holy Spirit, My hands will be your hands reaching out to others, and Lord my lips will not be slothful to speak, and I will be that good Samaritan to someone else in need, I will be your house to dwell in, live through me.
I challenge you today to pray that song as a prayer, and let us once again be reminded that that is what we were created for, to love those around us continually.
